By Friday the following week, Lyssa was feeling pretty good about Dex except for one thing. Her mind was still obsessing about the “why” of it all. It seemed completely out of the blue to her, this change of heart he seemed to be having. The holiday weekend she kind of understood because they’d both been drinking. But since then, he’d talked to her every day at work and invited her to do stuff outside of work. They’d gone rollerblading one day, a movie on cheap Tuesday night, a jog along the path that ran beside the Lake near his condo. And not once had he tried to make a move on her. She was getting antsy wondering when he was going to change into the sex fiend she was accustomed to. He was being completely hands off except for the casual polite brush of a hand or holding a door open or helping her stand up when she fell on her roller blades. He was polite, charming, funny, and they were actually talking like normal people without any angst. But she was feeling twitchy and restless because the more time she spent with him the more she liked him, the more she wanted to feel his hands on her again. But she’d be damned if it was her that made the first move.

At home Dani kept giving her strange looks. She must have sensed that Lyssa wasn’t being completely honest about who she was spending all this time with. Lyssa was still trying to keep things under wraps. She really didn’t want to explain to her friends what was happening, especially since she didn’t understand it herself.

Friday she was working the lunch shift again. Dex had been in and out all day. At her break time, he’d appeared in the staff lounge and asked her if she wanted to go to a jazz place with him when her shift was over. Of course she’d said yes, but immediately afterwards is when all these thoughts about what his motivation was came to her mind. She was getting a little impatient and thought maybe she needed to spice things up a little, turn it around on him a bit. She realized she was probably playing with fire but she wanted to get a reaction out of him. So she’d texted Tracy to ask her about that dress she’d designed for her. Tracy had told her the dress was ready.

“Can I come by after my shift to pick it up?” Lyssa had asked her.

“Hot date?” Tracy had replied.

“No one you know.” Lyssa had lied.

“Can I help you get ready?” Tracy was pretty handy with a makeup brush and she did have way more style than Lyssa had, so she thought about it all of two seconds before agreeing to let Tracy fix her up. She didn’t have to know that her date was only a couple doors down the hall.

For the rest of her shift Lyssa was a bundle of nerves. She messed up two orders before scolding herself and getting her focus back.
